Privacy Policy

Big Timer (“we”, “us”) is a web app for running countdown timers on a viewer screen and controlling them live. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We keep the data we collect to the minimum needed to run the service, and we don’t sell it.

Who we are

What we collect

Account details. When you create an operator account, we collect your email address and a password. Passwords are handled and stored in hashed form by our authentication provider (Google Firebase Authentication) — we never see or store your plain password.
Your timer content. The timers, names, durations, settings, and on-screen messages you create are stored so we can sync them to your viewer screens and keep them on your account.
Technical data. Standard information your browser and our providers generate — such as IP address, device/browser type, and timestamps — used for security, abuse prevention, and to operate the service.

We do not collect payment details today (Big Timer is currently free). If we add paid plans, payments will be handled by a dedicated payment processor and this policy will be updated first.

How we use it

To create and secure your account and log you in.
To store your timers and stream them live to the viewer screens you open.
To keep the service working, prevent abuse, and diagnose problems.
To respond to you when you contact support.

We don’t use your data for advertising, and we don’t sell or rent it.

Your viewer links are public

Each account has a viewer link (for example bigtimer.app/viewer.html?room=…). Anyone who has that link can watch your live timer and any on-screen messages, without an account. This is by design so you can put the timer on a stage screen, phone, or tablet. Please don’t put confidential information in timer names or messages, and only share the link with people who should see it.

Third-party services

We rely on Google Firebase (Authentication and Realtime Database) to store accounts and sync timers, and on our web host to serve the site. These providers process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy terms. See Firebase’s privacy information and Google’s Privacy Policy.

Cookies & local storage

We use your browser’s local storage to save your timers on your device and to keep you signed in (authentication tokens set by Firebase). We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Data retention & deletion

We keep your account and timer data for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time from Account → Delete my account in the dashboard, which removes your account and associated timer data. You can also email support@bigtimer.app and we’ll help.

Children

Big Timer isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we’ll delete it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, or to object to certain processing. To make a request, email support@bigtimer.app. We may serve users in various regions; if required by law (e.g. GDPR/UK GDPR or CCPA), we honor the applicable rights.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. When we make material changes, we’ll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you.
